Key Responsibilities
Working alongside and in conjunction with the Chef and Houseman, to ensure the smooth running of the Principal’s house, (front and back of house and the kitchen), looking after the Principal and guests as the role’s priority. The role requires evening and weekend working;
Lead by example and ensure the Principal’s household is represented to the highest standard at all time, whether dealing with colleagues, business partners and visitors, friends and family. At all times, observe appropriate protocols and professional standards. Integrity, conduct and direction are critical at every level;
Ensure a professional and smart appearance while on duty and representing the Principal;
Be a point of contact for the Principal and be available to deal with matters relating to both household management and personal assistance, (e.g. newspapers, prescription collection, dry cleaning, shopping, dealing with contractors and maintenance issues);
The Principal’s plans can be very changeable and the role holder must be flexible and be able to respond quickly to requests so that the Principal’s needs are met efficiently;
Live onsite in the property’s flat and be available to the Principal, as required, dealing with out of hours requests, alarm calls, and so on;
Line management responsibility of the housekeeping assistants, including holiday management and sickness cover to ensure sufficient staffing levels meaning the house is always in a state of readiness;
Be an active member of the housekeeping team, carrying out a variety of duties;
o Laundry (washing, ironing and wardrobe management/tidying clothes);
o Housekeeping (general household cleaning, polishing, dusting, mopping);
o Stripping and making beds;
o Cleaning bathroom(s), changing towels and restocking bathroom items;
o Specialist cleaning requirements for silver and antique items, including upholstery;
Respond to security and communication systems at the house, maintaining the necessary records;
Maintain direct communication with the Principal’s Personal Assistant and to ensure a successful outcome in all areas for the Principal and his requests;
Liaise with the Team Leader at Gardens on behalf of the Principal, for gardening and maintenance requirements of the Principal’s house grounds. For the avoidance of doubt, the Housekeeper has no line management responsibility for any of the Gardens team members.
Carry out training for the better performance of the role’s duties, either as requested by the role holder or as required by the Principal or Estate Director.
The Housekeeper works with the housekeeping team at the Principal’s main UK residence, located in Buckinghamshire. The Principal spends the majority of his time here and hosts family members in his home on a regular basis, as well as business partners, colleagues and friends. The household team consists of the Housekeeper, Houseman and Chef, supported by two housekeeping assistants, ensuring the property is in a constant state of readiness. The role holder must carry out housekeeping duties with the team, as well as wait at table when requested. The role reports to the Estate Director.
The Housekeeper is a first point of contact for the Principal in the house, along with the Houseman and Chef, working together to ensure a joined up approach for the smooth running of the residence and an efficient response to the Principal’s requests. In this, all work closely with the Principal’s Personal Assistant and utilise existing reporting structures for regular and effective communication with the Principal’s Chief of Staff, the wider Estate Team, the Family Office and any other The household team work with the Estate Director and Family Office to agree appropriate expenditure.
